Molecular imaging researchers from over forty countries gathered in a small Europe in North America, the city of Montreal, for the World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) 2009 from September 23-26. Over 1,300 abstracts were selected for presentation this time. WMIC 2009 was the second meeting among four molecular imaging societies: the Society for Molecular Imaging (SMI), the Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI), the European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI), and the Federation of Asian Societies for Molecular Imaging (FASMI) since it was initiated in 2008. Personally, I previously attended the annual meeting of SMI in 2006 and the Joint Molecular Imaging Conference (JMIC) between SMI and AMI in 2007. It is a great pleasure to get a chance to write another meeting report for BRIC since I wrote my first report after attending JMIC 2007. At the end of the first report I wrote ¡°When considering how much diversity and depth were added to the Joint Molecular Imaging Conference in 2007 by the assemblage of the two societies (i.e. SMI and AMI), it is very exciting to predict the variety and strength of research that will be presented at the World Molecular Imaging Congress.¡±. WMIC 2009 perfectly met my expectations.
